Sit N Go Poker Playing Live Poker Tournaments
Posted by Jon Stein - 16/11/10 at 03:11 pmSit n Go Poker is a choice of many professional poker players as a way to build their poker bankroll. Examine the SNG game as a way to better your skill in poker tournaments and building your bankroll.
One of the first ventures into poker that many new players make is, of course, cash games. Although this may seem like the relevant way to learn and build your bankroll, a better approach is in Sit n Go Poker (SNG). Multiple reasons exist behind choosing to play sit n go poker as a means to improve your game and become a better poker player.
Recently, 3 casinos in Pennsylvania have started a schedule of sitngo poker games for players, The Rivers in Pittsburgh, The Meadows Casino in Washington PA and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.
What is it that makes a sit n go poker game more advantageous to building a poker bankroll? Simple, the risk to reward ratio is much lower. In the sitngo, you have the opportunity to practice the game against real players without risking your entire bankroll.
In other words, a typical $65 SNG will pay the top 3 players (50%, 30% and 20%), that is overall a chance to win a little more than 4 times your investment. In the same respect a $1/$2 cash game would be very difficult to make 4 times your investment especially at a low buy in of $65.
Additionally, A sit n go usually will last about 2-3 hours, giving you an even better opportunity to maximize your hourly rate in playing poker. At a cash game, you would need to pull quite a few large pots in 2-3 hours to quadruple your original buy in. Although it is quite possible, especially given the looseness of many low limit cash games, you will also continue risking your entire investment in a cash game as you progress toward your 4X ROI (return on investment), unless, of course, you leave the game.
Another factor that makes a Sit N Go poker game the best choice for beginner players, is the opportunity to see more hands and flops, most notably in the early stages. In a cash game, you will easily go broke if you see too many flops!
The fact that many players will play soft (limping or non-aggressive) in the early stages of a SNG, will give you the chance to see more cheap flops. Whereas in a cash game, playing soft is rarely a style exercised by many players.
The most advantageous part of a Sit N Go, is of course the fact that there is FINALITY in the game. What that means is that all players know their is a limited number of cash prizes and failure to reach that level will end in a zero net return. Unlike a cash game where players who go bust, can rebuy in an attempt to recoup their losses, a SNG affords a solitary chance to earn money.
Once play begins to get closer to the money, you have the advantage to play more aggressively as your opponents may tighten up to make the money. The mere fact that a player is striving to cash can give you an overwhelming psychological advantage over them. In a cash game, this tactic is largely absent since the ability to reload is always an option.
Professional poker players, aside from playing in high stakes cash games, will play a sit n go as a means to pad their bankroll, and to sharpen their game. The pressure in a SNG is far less and the chance of opponents making crucial mistakes is far greater.
Take an opportunity to start playing Sit n Go poker whenever it is available to you. It will, in the long term, help your cash game as well as your large field sized tournament play. Not to mention that a couple wins or cashes will improve your bankroll quickly!
